SHŌKAKKŌ

Our in-house exhibition celebrating the little joys we find in everyday life

SHŌKAKKŌ

TheMerode's fourth exhibition focuses on the concept of happiness, a central theme for the social club. The exhibition acknowledges that happiness is elusive, taking different forms for each person. The goal of the exhibition is not to redefine happiness, but rather to explore its diverse manifestations. The club's members contribute their definitions of happiness, ranging from philosophical insights to everyday pleasures. The title "Shōkakkō," inspired by Haruki Murakami, represents the accumulation of small joys leading to happiness. Artworks exhibited, reminiscent of Sadaharu Horio's masks, convey human emotions and experiences. The exhibition highlights the ebb and flow of emotions, often symbolised by light and shadow.
