Steven Kaspar - 1992 - 1997
THE ASIAN SALON
Steve Kaspar's approach is that of a flâneur who has dabbled in different artistic genres and circles, but who has followed his own path without allowing himself to be impressed. He is an artist-passenger who, through a cyclical process, has created his own formal vocabulary.
The drawings in Steve Kaspar's Generation series were created between 1992 and 1997. Executed in mixed media on "Steinbach" paper, mainly in two formats, they represent both a high point and a turning point in the artist's work.
Whether they are summary exclamations or literary (pseudo-)quotations, the inscriptions are always cryptic. In so doing, they refer directly to the artistic nature of the drawings, since they simultaneously encrypt and decrypt the pictorial space. Similarly, Steve Kaspar's drawings look at their subject from the outside. The perfect esotericism of the play with temporal and spatial dynamics is constantly thwarted by the impurity of the heterogeneously combined means of representation: figures, signs and inscriptions collide in infinite white spaces.
Steve Kaspar (1952 – 2020) was a multimedia artist from Luxemburg.
From 1976 to 1988 he experimented with performance-concert, radio-player, sound-poetry, music and visual art.
