Stephen G. Rhodes - 2012

Vacant Portrait - Scalped General

Stephen G. Rhodes (b. 1977) works in a multiplicity of media that includes painting, sculpture and installation.

Rhodes is interested in deconstructing art historical and American mythology.

His paintings metabolise familiar iconography and compositions, making allusions to art historical works in a continuation of the tradition of repainting a compositional theme.

Rhodes is originally from Houston, Texas and is now based in Berlin, working with Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery.

He has had solo exhibitions at Kölnischer Kunstverein, Migros Museum and Hammer Museum and was included in the 15th Istanbul Biennial.
