Christian Schoeler - 2011

Untitled

German painter Christian Schoeler (1976-2015) was a painter working with oil and watercolour.

A graduate of Günther Förg’s class in Munich, he was best known for sensitive paints of youth and masculinity, that emphasised ideas of fragility, beauty and vulnerability.

He was lauded for his editorial fashion collaborations, working on projects in Another and Dazed, as well as with Louis Vuitton, designing a suit made entirely out of painted canvas for the Esquire.

The artist described the works as a mirror between himself and his subjects. In 2013, at the height of his creativity, Schoeler lost his ability to paint, due to a serious illness from which he never recovered.
