Cathy Wilkes - 2019
Wilkes (b. 1966), who has represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2019 and won the Maria Lassnig Prize in 2017 and has had solo shows at MoMA PS1 and Tate Liverpool, is best known for emotive installations of site-specific, sensitively positioned and repositioned objects and sculptures.
Her sensitive paintings are abstract yet veer on the edge of landscape.
The canvases are working on, put aside, scraped clean and reworked in a labour-intensive process.
Her work connects to the exhibition’s desire for nuance, sensitivity and pause. She is represented by Xavier Hufkens gallery.
