Lothar Hempel - 2023

Triangle

Berlin-based artist Lothar Hempel (b. 1966) works in a wide range of media bringing together the abstract and the figurative in dramatic stage like settings.

He made his name with installations and wall pieces made from a collage of found imagery referencing art history, cinema and historic popular culture in its widest sense.

The painting created here sees a move in new aesthetic directions working more immediately on the canvas in a narrative form.

He works with galleries Anton Kern and Stuart Shave/Modern Art. His work is held in the collections of MoMA, Sammlung Goetz, Astrup Fearnley Museum and MOCA.
