Maaike Schoorel - 2024
Dutch artist Maaike Schoorel (b. 1973) uses photography and everyday experience as source material to create loose abstract works rooted in the art-historical genres of landscape, portrait, and still life.
She invites the viewer for slower examination of her work and resistance to immediate gratification of the easily circulated digital image.
In her deeply nuanced work, the abstract is in fact an illusion.
Schoorel has exhibited with Mendes Wood DM, Maureen Paley, Fondazione Memmo and the Frans Hals Museum.
