Danielle Mckinney - 2024

Luna

Danielle Mckinney (b. 1981) is an American painter whose narrative figurative works are often centered around Black female protagonists.

Her women, as here, are often in reflection or at leisure in intimate contexts such as on bed, armchairs or splayed on floors.

She has a background in photography, and is interested in the role of the female gaze and relationship between viewer and subject.

Most recently, McKinney has had solo shows at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and is in the collection of Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Dallas Museum of Art, Studio Museum Harlem.
