RICARDO BASBAUM - 1987

Corte de Cabelo

STABLES

Born in 1961 in São Paulo, Brazil. Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Artist, writer and teacher, Ricardo Basbaum investigates art as an intermediary device and a platform for the integration of sensorial experiences, sociability and language. Since the late 1980s, he has created a specificvocabulary to his work, applying it in a particular way for every new project. This vocabulary often manifestsitself as drawings, installations, videos and urban interventions.

He has recently taken part in group exhibitions at Documenta XII (Kassel), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), São Paulo’s Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo’s International Biennial, Le 19 (Centre régional d’art contemporain, Montbéliard, France), The Secession (Vienna), among others. He also was a resident artist at the Audain Gallery in Vancouver and has held individual projects at the Galician Center for Contemporary Art (Santiago de Compostela) and at The Showroom (London).

Ricardo Basbaum’s work is part of important collections, such as: Tate Moden (London), Arizona State University Art Museum (Tempe, USA), Museum of Modern Art (São Paulo), São Paulo’s University Museum of Contemporary Art and Museum of Modern Art (Rio de Janeiro).
