Sam Samore - 1990’S
Lips have been an ongoing motif for American artist Sam Samore (b. 1963) since 1980.
Often placed in groups or “towers”, here the variation, grain and repetition of lips as a found image highlight how each tell their own story and reflects their own inner life.
Samore’s work is highly influenced by filmmakers such as Chris Marker, Andy Warhol and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as classical mythology and modern experimental novels.
The large photographs, about the same size as our bodies, have a physical presence.
Samore, who works with Rodlophe Jannsen, has had solo shows at Anthology Film Archives, P.S.1 and Kunsthalle Zurich.
