Maja Vukoje - 2022

Albersvietnam

German artist Maja Vukoje (b. 1969) creates works about hybridity and transculturality in our globalized lives.

Blurring the boundaries of painting as a medium, her works often play wiht the materials and reference of global commodities such as sugar or coffee or tropical fruit.

The work exhibited here - a sly nod to modernist artist Joseph Albers - is created on sourced coffee sacks.

Here consumption and symbolism walk hand in hand. Highly lauded in Austria, Vukoje has had solo exhibitions at Belvedere 21, Halle für Kunst & Medien, Salzburger Kunstverein, and Vienna Secession.
