ANTE TIMMERMANS - 2013

711/2013

PHONE BOX LOUNGE

Born in 1976 in Ninove, Belgium. Lives and works between Zurich and Gent.

Ante Timmermans  is one of the most active figures on the contemporary drawing scene, noted for the simplicity of his techniques - the majority of his works are in pencil, in black and white - and his use of old-fashioned devices for his installations (record players, overhead projectors, etc.). As a keen observer of ourtimes, he reflects on the relationship between nature and culture, and develops a representation of the modern city, seen as a ghostly city, a landscape of countless skyscrapers, a no-man's-land of dizzyingperspectives. At once poetic, ironic and disenchanted, his work is also a reflection on the importance of language and text in our lives.

His work was exhibited at Musée Jenish, Vevey, and Kunstmuseum St-Gallen.
