General Director - Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières Norway
Lindis Hurum is the current General Director of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières Norway. She has previously worked fifteen years as an humanitarian aid worker for the same organization, and has been a central project manager in both large, complex humanitarian disasters as well as in forgotten crises.
She has a background in communication and TV production with a bachelor’s degree in Media & Communication Science. She also holds a Master’s degree in Disaster Management.
Lindis initiated the The Cost of Caring project together with MSF Norway psychologist in 2018. The aim is to inspire and provoke a cultural change on all levels within the MSF movement, through open talk about burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary/vicarious trauma.
Lindis has published two books, both based on her personal notes from her humanitarian work. Entitled ‘The Others’ (2016) and ‘All human beings are not equal’ (2023) respectively, both use storytelling as a tool to inspire and provoke the reader to actively engage in social justice and the constant struggle it is to preserve our common humanity.
