TheMerode Music Club — Ferdi, the rising figure of saxophone

For this edition of TheMerode Music Club, Diane Marois invites Ferdi, the saxophonist who is revitalising instrumental music.

In just 3 years, Ferdi, 28 years old, has established himself as one of the most talented saxophonists of his generation.

Sought after by leading contemporary artists such as the classical piano virtuoso Sofiane Pamart and French funk maestro Dabeull, with whom he regularly shares the stage and collaborates on tracks, Ferdi is carving out his path as a solo artist. A rapid rise and a rare journey for an instrumental musician who is about to release his first solo album.

Join us for this new Music Club by Diane Marois and discover the story of a rising star. Come and be transported by the magic of his saxophone.

The conversation will be followed by a live performance of Ferdi accompanied by Elvin Galland on synthesizer.

Ferdi

Originally from the north of France, Ferdi began learning the saxophone at the age of 6-7, as much out of curiosity about the instrument as out of a love of sound. After ten years of classical saxophone, he won a gold medal at the Douai Conservatoire and headed off to Brussels to study jazz for 5 years. A meeting with the Belgian rapper Peet gave him the opportunity of a first collaboration in 2021, which quickly led to two other great encounters: the king of funk Dabeull, then the Piano King Sofiane Pamart. In 2022, he took part in Scylla's new album, and then placed a solo track on Sofiane Pamart's album NOCHE the following year. He released his first project, Val Duchesse, in 2022, a short 5-track EP including the twirling ‘5H34’ in a duet with his trumpeter friend Béesau. In 2023 he unveiled Romance, a duet with Dabeull, an album combining the brilliance of the saxophone and the magic of funk. A rising star on the Brussels-Paris scene, Ferdi is preparing his first solo album for 2024, in a jazz/indie-pop universe that he builds and defines with care, passion and ambition.
