“Bodiless”, currently on view at TheMerode Art Salon, brings together five different Chinese lacquer artists: Zhong Sheng, Yao Bangliang, Sun Wenjia, Ou Tingzhu, and Liu Lijun. Their works push the boundaries of lacquer as a medium while exploring its physical and cultural significance, standing at the intersection of tradition and innovation.

This exclusive guided tour will give art lovers a deeper insight into the curatorial choices and meanings behind the exhibited works. It will be led by Maxime Bureau, an art collector and advisor on Chinese art who co-curated the exhibition.

Whether you are an art enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this tour will enhance your understanding of an ancient craft reimagined for the modern world.

Born in Paris to a Bordeaux winemaking family, Maxime Bureau developed a deep connection to Chinese culture, studying at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. Staying in China after graduation, he began his career in contemporary Chinese art at UCCA in Beijing’s 798 Art District, becoming a passionate collector and advisor. Alongside his art ventures, Maxime promoted his family’s wine in China and founded an event agency. He later co-founded the fashion brand Atelier Rouge Pékin with designer P.J., blending Chinese tradition with modern design. Now based between Brussels and Paris, he represents Chinese artists and designers, collaborating with the Yuan Museum in Beijing and organizing the Chinese Pavilion for Paris Design Week 2025.
