The Third Perspective: artist talk

Francesca Gavin, curator of our in-house exhibition, in conversation with Danish artist Cecilie Norgaard.

Step into the universe of ‘The Third Perspective’, now on view at TheMerode, as its curator Francesca Gavin sits down with featured artist Cecilie Norgaard. Three of Norgaard’s intriguing paintings are part of the group show which explores themes such as nuance, atmosphere, and subtlety.

This conversation will delve into the thinking behind Norgaard’s work as well as their relation to the exhibition’s subject matter, offering a rare glimpse into her creative process and mindset.

The Danish artist will discuss the role of nuance and depiction of liminal spaces in her paintings, and, together with Gavin, will examine ideas around aesthetics, socio-economics and the structure of painting itself.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with the concepts that underpin this thought-provoking exhibition.

The Third Perspective runs from January 8 to July 12.

speaker

Cecilie Norgaard

Danish artist Cecilie Norgaard, a recent graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, creates images of strange landscapes and interior compositions that aim to unpick ideas around aesthetics, artistic production and socio-economic living conditions. Her ambiguous works are often filled with architectural structures, transport vehicles and office furniture. She depicts scenarios in the liminal spaces of existence – questioning the meaning and visual structures of painting itself. Stylistically, her muddy palette and loose brushstroke refuse to be pigeonholed. These are paintings that question.
