Discover ‘Oilopa’, Jana Euler’s solo exhibition at Wiels with a guided tour by curators Pauline Hatzigeorgiou and Dirk Snauwaert.
Jana Euler’s exhibition Oilopa — a contraction of the terms Oil (painting) and Europa — unfolds into a semi-utopian land, reversing the ascendant flows of financial figures while extrapolating on cycles of surplus and vacuity.
By assuming a heterogeneity of textures, techniques and pictorial heritages, Euler pursues her approach of vitalist expressive figuration as a means to give shape to fantasied worlds. Yet, as in Oilopa, these fantasies are less about providing an escape from reality and more about revealing new perspectives on its distorted processes.
Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the work of Jana Euler, a consistent body of work that builds up a detailed picture of painting’s social, material, and historical bases.
