Join Alexander Gurning for a piano recital at the crossroads of classical and jazz music.
The pianist Alexander Gurning presents a recital that resembles an autobiographical journey, where he takes the listener through different eras and styles.
This musical journey oscillates between the purity of interpretation, improvisation, and composition. It swings between classical, jazz, and pop until the boundaries dissolve. In doing so, he reconnects with a concert tradition that emphasises spontaneity and reinvention.
The symbolic landscapes and freedom of Debussy will meet the festivity of Liszt, the earthy folklore of Bartók, and the Afro-American rhythms of jazz. It is through his unrelenting desire to explore cultures that Alexander Gurning defines his own language, joyfully blending groove, impressionism, and romanticism.
Don't miss the opportunity to listen to one of today's great pianists.

Alexander Gurning's career began with a solid classical training. His musical horizons have since broadened through his repertoire as a soloist, chamber musician, jazz musician, contemporary composer and film musician. This makes him one of the most eclectic and original artists of his generation.
His musical education was strongly influenced by French and Russian influences: he began his piano studies with François Henri Aubin and continued at the Brussels Royal Conservatoire with Nicole Henriot-Schweitzer and Eugène Moguilevsky, where he became his assistant. He then went on to perfect his skills at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
His atypical recitals are driven by his unquenchable desire to travel across languages and cultures, joyfully mixing Bach, Debussy, Coltrane, improvisations and original compositions tinged with impressionism, romanticism and groove.
Alexander Gurning has been a piano teacher at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège since 2022.
